A very nostalgic and patriotic afternoon was spent at Uttoxeter Town Hall recently to commemorate the World War I Centenary.
A Poppy Afternoon Tea was hosted by Uttoxeter Town Council and sponsored by Uttoxeter Town Council, Tesco’s, the Team of Uttoxeter Poppy Sellers, Uttoxeter Rotary Club, The Vintage Tea Emporium, Golfer’s Retreat, Lara’s Creative Cakes and so many more.
The event commenced with a welcome from the Town Mayor, Councillor Alison Trenery and a minutes silence remembering those who gave their today for our tomorrow and also in memory of our dear friend, and Poppy Seller, Cyril Leedham who sadly passed away on Thursday of last week.
120 guests were entertained by the angelic voice of Kate Copeland singing war time songs and there was also a sing-a-long with The Goldies, all served up alongside a traditional afternoon tea. The team from Tesco’s kindly sponsored the raffle prizes and provided delicious sandwiches and served this dressed as land army girls to add a flavour of a bygone era.
A truly wonderful afternoon of singing and dancing enjoyed by many including residents of nearby nursing homes.
The afternoon ended with the Mayor, Councillor Alison Trenery reciting the poem in Flanders Fields by John McCrae.
